教學目標 Course Objectives：

This course is to help college students develop integrated-language skills. Students are taught to learn useful English expressions, common conversation patterns, basic reading and writing skills through weekly exercises of lecture, authentic reading material, class activity, and group discussion.

At the end of the semester, students should be able to

1. develop basic reading skills and interpret main ideas in short passages
2. understand the gist of basic spoken language in specific cultural context
3. use some basic phrases, and express some basic needs in some everyday situations with reasonable accuracy and fluency
4. write complete sentences and short paragraphs about basic topics they have studied
5. distinguish different cultural contexts and appreciate other cultures
